What is new - version 15.16.09.26
This version refines the wand and the dictionary.
- „Zaznacz cały tekst" (select all) works both ways. The first click selects all the text, the second removes the selection and puts the cursor at the end of the text - where you usually carry on writing. Between the clicks you can copy the text, switch the key set or use Shift and Ctrl. Once you type something, click in the text or move to another window, the next click selects everything again.
- Dictionary words without a border. The words now have the same border as the keys: you cannot see it, and an outline appears only under the cursor. Until now they were the only outlined fields on the keyboard.
Update 16.09.2026 (version 14) - key layout, transparency and how the buttons look
This version tidies up the key layout, adds keyboard transparency and changes how the buttons look.
- Three keys swapped places. The first column now holds Esc, Tab and 123 from top to bottom. The wand moved to the end of the second row, next to Enter. It is the same in every set - letters, digits, function keys and both sides of the wand - so none of these keys moves away when you switch sets.
- Keyboard transparency. A new slider in the settings, „How visible the keyboard is". At a lower value you can see the window you are typing into through the keyboard - useful when it covers the text you are writing. The lowest setting is 30%, so the keys stay visible for someone using eye control.
- Settings dock the keyboard on their own. If you open the settings with docking turned off, the keyboard pins itself to the edge for that time, so you can see what the sliders do straight away. It returns to its previous state when you close them.
- Keys without a border. The key border now has the colour of the key itself, so the outline appears only under the cursor and says plainly: „this is what you are aiming at". Control keys (Ctrl, Shift, Alt) keep their own colour.
- Menu buttons follow the theme. They used to be blue whatever theme you chose. Now they look like the keys. The close button stays red.
- New symbols on buttons: settings have a clear, solid gear, and the manual has a page of text instead of a question mark.
- The new version sign is easier to see. It used to be a green outline that got lost against the bar. It is now yellow, filled in and pulses gently.
- Custom colours are easier to set by eye. The colour sliders now show a number from 0 to 255, and the - and + buttons change it by 20 instead of 5 - going through the whole scale takes a dozen clicks instead of over fifty.
Update 14.09.2026 (version 13) - menu buttons in the trial version
This version fixes a bug of the menu buttons in the trial version.
- The menu buttons no longer disappear next to the trial version note. When the row of menu buttons showed the note with the days of the trial left, for example „wersja próbna - zostało 13 dni" (trial version - 13 days left), the buttons could vanish while the window was being resized: first one was left, then none. Now the buttons come first and the note takes only the free space next to them. In a narrow window the buttons partly cover it.
Update 13.09.2026 (version 12) - menu buttons in their own row and a narrower keyboard
Version 12.13.09.26 tidies up the buttons above the keys and allows a narrower keyboard.
- The dictionary and the menu buttons in separate rows. Word suggestions are at the top, the row of menu buttons below them. Unfolded buttons no longer cover the words, and a switched-off dictionary no longer takes the buttons away - the narrow strip that had to be unfolded with a click is gone.
- The dictionary is switched on and off with the book button instead of the old „Aa". A filled background means the dictionary is on.
- „Nie ukrywaj przycisków menu" (Do not hide the menu buttons) - a new box in the settings, next to the hiding delay. The menu buttons then stay unfolded for good.
- A scrollbar for the menu buttons. When the menu buttons do not fit, a thin scrollbar appears under them; the mouse wheel works too. All menu buttons are the same size and are no longer cut off on a small keyboard.
- A narrower and smaller keyboard without docking - the window can be made much narrower than before, and a switched-off dictionary takes no height.
- The second page of the wand: moving a window now has a four-arrow symbol, and next to it is a new „Pulpit" (Desktop) key - it opens a window with the files on the desktop.
Update 13.09.2026 (version 11) - docking can be switched off
Version 11.13.09.26 brought one thing users asked for: docking can be switched off.
- Docking on or off. Until now the keyboard always took a strip across the whole width of the screen, at the top or at the bottom. Now the buttons of the dictionary bar (behind the „⋯" button) include a button with a pin. Pinned - the keyboard keeps its strip at the edge, just as before. Crossed-out pin - the keyboard becomes an ordinary window on top of the other windows.
- Moving and size like the Windows keyboard. Without docking a bar appears above the keys. Grab it with the mouse and drag it to move the keyboard, also to a second monitor. Change the size by dragging an edge or a corner of the window. The keyboard remembers its place and size, so after a restart it stands where it was left.
- Back to docking with one click - on the pin or on the „Dokuj u góry" (Dock at the top) or „Dokuj u dołu" (Dock at the bottom) arrow. Without docking the „-" and „+" buttons enlarge the whole window together with the keys.
Update 13.09.2026 (version 10) - 14 days of the full version and remote help
Version 10.13.09.26 brought two things: 14 days of the full version after installation and new remote help.
- 14 days of the full version after installation. The program runs for two weeks with no limits - no countdown and no closing itself. Until now, without a licence key it gave only a few minutes of work, and that is too little to tell whether it suits a particular person. After fourteen days it returns to the demonstration version, exactly as before. The time is counted once per computer and is shared by all System Sensor programs: whoever starts the trial in one has the others full for the same days. A connected control box and an entered licence key work as always, independently of the trial.
- Remote help through Windows Quick Assist. There is nothing to download any more - Quick Assist is built into Windows. The session code shows up on the screen by itself, because we send it straight to the program; you do not have to read it out over the phone. Here is a drawing showing exactly where that button is.
- The keyboard has remote help for the first time. At the very bottom of Settings there is a „Pomoc zdalna" (Remote help) section with the „Poproś o pomoc zdalną" (Ask for remote help) button. The buttons of that window can be clicked by gaze, just like in settings. After the click the Settings window closes by itself, so that it does not cover Quick Assist.
- A new look for the wand. The key in the bottom left corner now shows a stick with a star instead of the star alone. It works just as before.
Update 11.09.2026 - the wand and the reader
Version 9.11.09.26 gave the keyboard two things it never had: starting programs and reading text aloud. Both of them live on the second page of the wand.
- The wand now has two pages. The first click on the key opens the ready-made actions on text, just as before - the key then glows green. The second click opens a new page with programs and reading aloud, and the key turns maroon. A third click returns to the first page. It is the same habit as with the Shift and Ctrl keys, so there is nothing new to learn.
- Programs at one key. Notepad, Word, mail, Chrome, YouTube, WhatsApp, Messenger, drive C:, drive D: and the main folder view. Until now a person who has only the on-screen keyboard had no way to start a program - desktop icons are small and sit close together. Now every program is one wide key with a word on it. Mail opens whichever program is set in the system, so everyone gets their own. Whatever is missing on the computer, the keyboard says so in a message on its own background.
- Moving a window. The „Przesuń okno" (move window) key takes hold of the window you are typing into and leads it with the mouse. The pointer jumps onto the title bar, the place where a hand would grab the window, and a left click lets it go. While this lasts the key glows dark yellow. The window cannot be pushed off the screen - the title bar always stays within reach.
- The keyboard reads aloud. „Czytaj tekst" (read text) reads the selected passage, and when nothing is selected - the whole text. The voice is the same one the PIC and Y programs use: a woman's or a man's, it sounds human and works without the internet. The neighbouring key „Zakończ czytanie" (stop reading) breaks off mid-word. The settings gained a Lektor (narrator) section: choice of voice, reading speed and a „Posłuchaj" (listen) button.
- The right mouse button is gone from the wand corner. The same button stands in the bar above the keys, so it took up room twice. The wand took over the freed corner.
- A clearer installer. The selection screen now says plainly which program you are installing, and the list below holds the optional programs only. The greyed-out box of the program being installed, which looked like something broken, is gone from it. Carers reported this.
- The program tells you about a new version after ten seconds from start-up instead of forty-five. Whoever opens the keyboard only briefly will learn about it too.
Update of 06.09.2026 - aiming at the keys
Version 7.06.09.26 is above all about aiming at the keys. The pointer now drives itself to the centre of a key, and under eye control the keyboard finally behaves like the rest of Windows.
- Eye control now snaps the pointer to the keys. The EyeControl program pulls the pointer towards buttons and icons, but until now it simply could not see the keys of our keyboard - Windows was told about nothing but the letter itself, a few pixels wide. Every key now presents itself to the system as a proper button, so the pointer catches the whole key. Screen readers and hardware from other makers gain exactly the same way.
- The pointer jumps to the centre of a key by itself - a new part of the settings, „Pointer snapping". You no longer have to be accurate: get close to the key and the program covers the rest of the way. It helps with a shaking hand and with a mouse worn on the head, because the pointer shows at once which key you are aiming at. One tick turns it off.
- Auto-click gives way to EyeControl. A key can be pressed by simply holding the pointer still - we used to call this „eye control", although it has nothing to do with the eyes: all that counts is how long the pointer stays put. When EyeControl is running, the keyboard switches its own auto-click off, because EyeControl clicks for it - two countdowns at once typed every character twice. Close EyeControl and the setting comes back by itself, untouched.
- The program tells you about a new version. When a newer release appears on the server, a green mark lights up next to the word bar. The keyboard does not interrupt your writing with a window - it asks only once you click that mark yourself.
- Calculator - a second press of the calculator key closes it, wherever it happens to sit on the screen.
Update of 03.09.2026 - installer and accented letters
Version 6.03.09.26 changes the installer: on the first screen you tick which System Sensor programs are to be installed, and the installer downloads them from the website. The keyboard weighs 2 MB, so it installs in seconds; next to it you can tick PIC, Y or EyeControl straight away. Downloaded files are checked for the System Sensor signature, and the program no longer starts by itself after installation - unless you tick that explicitly.
Version 4.03.09.26 brought three changes:
- Accented letters are easier to see. After you press AltGr, nine accented letters stay on the keyboard and every other character goes dark - you no longer have to hunt for them among twenty others. A darkened key cannot be pressed by mistake either. The working keys - space, backspace, Enter, the arrows and AltGr itself - stay where they are.
- Buttons in the program's messages respond to your eyes even when the window appears exactly where you are already looking. Before, you had to look away and back to click anything - which hurt most with the question about closing the keyboard.
- A control unit replaces the key only while it is connected. Until now it was enough that one had been in the computer at any time during the past month. Anyone with a valid EyeControl, PIC or Y licence types without a key of their own, as before.
Update of 02.09.2026 - dictionary, ready-made phrases and word forms
- The bar shows the whole next word before you press a single letter: after „chcę" (I want) it offers „pić" (to drink), „jeść" (to eat), „spać" (to sleep). The program knows over seven hundred such pairs from everyday speech and adds its own - after a few days the bar speaks the language of the person typing.
- Ready-made phrases - whole sentences with one click. Thirty-six to start with; your own are added in the settings.
- Word and name inflection - Polish names finally bring up suggestions, and after you pick a word the bar shows its other forms.
- Starting together with Windows - a person typing with their eyes does not need anyone to click the desktop shortcut.
- Rebuilt settings - every part has its own background, and two large scrolling buttons stand on the left, because a slider cannot be moved with the eyes.
1. What it is for
The On-Screen Keyboard replaces the Windows on-screen keyboard for someone who cannot use a normal one. You type with your eyes alone (with a Tobii eye tracker and the EyeControl program), with a head-worn mouse or with an ordinary mouse - any method that can put the pointer on a key.
The program stands on its own. It also works when EyeControl is switched off - it is not an add-on to it.
How it differs from the Windows on-screen keyboard
- It suggests whole words. The Windows keyboard offers letters; this one offers a finished word after two or three characters. When you type with your eyes, a single keystroke costs a second or two, so picking „unbelievable" with one glance instead of twelve is not convenience - it decides whether the conversation happens at all.
- An even field of targets. Every key has the same width (except the space bar) and they line up in even columns - the eye aims at a column, not at a single tile.
- The look is yours to set - colours, text size, keyboard height, spacing, border thickness, highlight strength.
- It does not steal the cursor from the program you type into.
2. Requirements and installation
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
- .NET Framework 4.8 - part of Windows 10 and 11, nothing to install separately.
- Typing with the eyes needs a Tobii eye tracker and the EyeControl program; typing with a mouse needs nothing but the mouse.
The installer walks you through the usual „Next" windows. The program installs for all accounts on the computer and can be started right away - without a licence key it runs as a trial version (point 12).
3. The strip at the edge of the screen, or an ordinary window
The keyboard takes a strip across the whole width of the screen - at the top or at the bottom, as you choose. The system reserves its space, so other programs shrink their own windows and none of them covers the keys. When the keyboard closes, the space goes back to them.
Without docking - an ordinary window
If a full-width strip gets in the way, switch docking off with the pin button (among the buttons above the keys, see the table below). The keyboard then gives the strip back and becomes an ordinary window on top of the other windows - just like the Windows on-screen keyboard:
- a bar appears above the keys - grab it with the mouse and drag it to move the keyboard, also to a second monitor,
- change the size by dragging an edge or a corner of the window,
- the keyboard remembers its place and size - after a restart it stands where it was left,
- to dock it again, use the pin or the ↑ or ↓ arrow.
Moving and resizing need a mouse - a job for the carer. A person typing with the eyes types in a window set up like this exactly as in a docked one.
The menu buttons
Above the keys there are two separate rows: the dictionary with word suggestions at the top, and the menu buttons below it. The row of menu buttons is always visible - also when the dictionary is switched off.
The less frequently used menu buttons are hidden. Clicking ⋯ at the right end of the row unfolds them; after a few seconds without a click they fold away again. The delay is set in the settings, and the „Nie ukrywaj przycisków menu" (Do not hide the menu buttons) box keeps them unfolded for good. When the keyboard is large and the window narrow, so that the menu buttons do not fit, a thin scrollbar appears under them - move the buttons with it or with the mouse wheel.
The row of menu buttons unfolded. The last three buttons (💬 ☰ ⋯) are always visible; the buttons from − to ✕ slide out after clicking ⋯. The yellow sign shows only when a newer version is available, and the note on the left only in the trial version (the program shows it in Polish). The program uses Windows symbols here; the page shows the closest pictures.
The menu buttons use the colours of the chosen theme, just like the keys. Only the close button ✕ stays red - the colour says that this button ends the program.
Always visible - counting from the right end of the row:
| No. | Button | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | ⋯ | slides the other menu buttons out and back in |
| 2 | ☰ | the right mouse button - the context menu at the text cursor. Without it, someone typing with their eyes would have no way to open it |
| 3 | 💬 | ready-made phrases - whole sentences with one click (point 8) |
| 4 | ⤓ | only when there is a newer version of the program: yellow, gently pulsing, and a click asks whether to update. The keyboard never interrupts typing with a window on its own |
Hidden under ⋯ - from the left:
| No. | Button | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | − + | lower or taller keys (18-50% of the screen height); without docking - a smaller or larger whole window |
| 2 | 📖 | dictionary on or off. A filled background means the dictionary is on; switched off, it gives its space back to the screen |
| 3 | Win | Windows taskbar: hide it automatically or leave it visible. A filled background means the taskbar hides itself |
| 4 | ⚙️ | settings - the solid gear icon |
| 5 | 📄 | the user manual (this page, in Polish) - the sheet of text icon. It stands right next to the settings, because that is where people usually look for help |
| 6 | 📌 | docking on or off. Filled background and a pinned pin = the keyboard keeps its strip at the edge; crossed-out pin = an ordinary window you can move |
| 7 | ↑ ↓ | keyboard at the top or at the bottom of the screen (without docking - switches docking on at that edge) |
| 8 | ✕ | close the keyboard (it asks for confirmation) |
4. Key sets
Everything fits into three rows. Instead of scrolling there are sets you switch between with a single key, and the two left-hand columns stand in the same place in every set - nothing jumps under your gaze.
| No. | Set | How to open it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Letters | the abc key, from any other set |
| 2 | Digits and symbols | the 123 key |
| 3 | Function keys and system keys | the Fn key |
| 4 | The wand - ready-made actions on text | the key in the bottom left corner |
| 5 | Ready-made phrases | the speech-bubble button in the row of menu buttons |
What each key does
Letters and digits type what you see on them. Below is the rest - the keys that type nothing but do something. The first table lists the keys of the letter set - most of them also stand in the other sets, in the same place. The right mouse button ☰ is not a key: it sits in the row of menu buttons (point 3).
| No. | Key | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Esc | closes whatever has just opened - a dialog, a menu, a suggestion. It deletes nothing |
| 2 | Ctrl | types nothing by itself; it is there for shortcuts in other programs (Ctrl and S saves a file, for example). One click - green, held until the next character; two - dark red, held until you click it again |
| 3 | ⇧ | a capital letter, or the upper symbol on a key. The colours work exactly as with Ctrl |
| 4 | Alt | the second shortcut key, also with two colours. Alt on its own opens the menu in many programs |
| 5 | AltGr | accented letters: held down it gives ą, ć, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś, ź, ż. Two colours as well |
| 6 | Caps | capital letters for good, without holding Shift. It toggles the system Caps Lock, so the light on a physical keyboard comes on with it |
| 7 | ⌫ | deletes the character before the cursor - the one just typed |
| 8 | Del | deletes the character after the cursor |
| 9 | ↵ | starts a new line; in dialogs it confirms |
| 10 | Tab | jumps to the next field - useful in forms on websites |
| 11 | space | a gap between words. It also ends a word, so the dictionary adds it to its memory |
| 12 | the wand: opens the set of ready-made actions on text (copy, paste, save, undo) | |
| 13 | 123 / abc | switches between letters and digits. The label says where it takes you, not where you are |
| 14 | Fn | opens the set with function keys F1-F12 and system keys |
| 15 | ← → | moves the cursor one character left or right. With Shift held down it selects text |
These are added in the digits set and in the function keys set:
| No. | Key | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | ↑ ↓ | moves the cursor one line up or down |
| 2 | Home / End | jump to the start or the end of the line |
| 3 | PgUp / PgDn | scrolls a whole screen up or down - handy when reading a long page |
| 4 | Ins | switches overwriting on and off: new letters replace the ones already there instead of pushing them aside |
| 5 | F1 - F12 | function keys, which do something different in every program. F1 is usually help, F5 refreshes a page |
| 6 | ` | the grave accent, and with Shift the tilde (~). Rare, but sometimes needed in passwords and addresses |
Letters
Keys with a lighter border (Ctrl, Caps, Shift, Alt, AltGr, 123, Fn) are control keys. The rest type a character.
Digits and symbols - the 123 key
The smaller symbol above a digit is its Shift pair - exactly as on an ordinary keyboard.
The Shift pairs are the same as on an ordinary keyboard. This set also holds the up and down arrows and Home, End, PgUp and PgDn.
Function keys and system keys - the Fn key
In the program the volume, brightness, microphone and calculator keys carry small icons (a speaker, a sun, a microphone); here they are written out in words.
- F1 - F12,
- volume and mute,
- screen brightness - on a laptop and on an external monitor,
- microphone - muted for all programs at once,
- calculator - the key works as a switch: the first click opens the Windows calculator, the next one closes it. When the calculator lies behind another window, a click brings it back to the front, and only the click after that closes it.
Back to letters with the abc key, in the same place as 123. The function set stays open until you leave it yourself - F5 or the volume keys are often pressed several times in a row.
The wand - two pages under one key
The key at the end of the second row opens a set of ready-made actions. To copy text the usual way you press Ctrl and then the letter C - when typing with the eyes that is two glances of two seconds each, plus knowing that copying „lives under C". Here every action is one key with a word on it.
Since version 8.11.09.26 the wand has two pages, and its colour tells you which one you are on:
- Green - the first click. Actions on text: selecting, deleting a whole word, the clipboard, saving, printing, moving between windows.
- Maroon - the second click. Programs, drives, moving a window and reading aloud.
A third click returns to the first page, so both pages are turned with a single target - which matters to someone aiming with their eyes. Back to letters as always: the abc key.
The first page of the wand - the wand key glows green. Every action is one wide key with a word on it (the program shows them in Polish). Layout of version 14.16.09.26.
| No. | Key (as shown in the program) | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Zaznacz po lewej / po prawej (select left / right) | selects the word next to the cursor |
| 2 | Usuń po lewej / po prawej (delete left / right) | deletes a whole word, not a letter |
| 3 | Zaznacz cały tekst (select all) | the first click selects all the text (like Ctrl+A), the second removes the selection and puts the cursor at the end of the text |
| 4 | Kopiuj, Wklej, Wytnij (copy, paste, cut) | the clipboard without reaching for Ctrl |
| 5 | Cofnij (undo) | the rescue key after a mistake - wide, because it is looked for in a hurry |
| 6 | Zapisz, Otwórz, Drukuj (save, open, print) | actions on a file |
| 7 | Przełącz okno (switch window) | move to another program |
| 8 | Następna karta (next tab) | move to another tab in the browser |
Without the last two keys, someone who has only the on-screen keyboard has no way to move to another window or another tab. A carer can do it with a mouse, but the person themselves cannot. That is why „switch window" and „next tab" stand right here.
The second page of the wand - programs, drives and reading aloud
A second click on the key opens the page where the keyboard stops being just a keyboard. As long as there is nothing to write into, writing itself gives nothing - and a person steering with their eyes or with a single switch will not open Word, will not reach YouTube and will not find their own drive.
The second page of the wand - the wand key glows maroon. Moving a window has a four-arrow symbol, with the „Pulpit" (Desktop) key next to it. Layout of version 14.16.09.26.
| No. | Key (as shown in the program) | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Notatnik (notepad) | opens Windows Notepad |
| 2 | Word | opens Word, if it is on the computer |
| 3 | Poczta (mail) | opens the mail program set in the system - Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows Mail |
| 4 | Chrome | opens the Chrome browser |
| 5 | Dysk C: / Dysk D: (drive C: / D:) | opens a window with the contents of the drive |
| 6 | Widok główny (main view) | the „This PC" window - drives, documents, pictures |
| 7 | Pulpit (desktop) | a window with the files on the desktop - described below |
| 8 | YouTube | opens YouTube in the browser |
| 9 | WhatsApp, Messenger | open the program, and when it is missing - the website |
| 10 | (move window) | takes the window „onto the mouse" - described below |
| 11 | Czytaj tekst (read text) | reads the selected passage aloud, and when nothing is selected - the whole text |
| 12 | Zakończ czytanie (stop reading) | breaks off the reading mid-word |
Moving a window - the symbol
After the click the pointer jumps onto the title bar of the window you are typing into, and the window follows the mouse. A left click lets the window go in its new place. All this time the key glows dark yellow, so it is visible that something is happening and which key will end it.
Why it matters: the keyboard takes a strip along the edge of the screen, and the program window often hides the sentence being written behind it or behind a corner. Whoever holds a mouse will grab the window by its bar. Whoever types with their eyes cannot - the bar is a narrow target, and dragging means holding a button down the whole way. Here one click at the start and one at the end is enough.
The window cannot be pushed off the screen. The title bar never leaves above the top edge, and a piece of the window always stays within reach at the sides - otherwise it would be easy to lose a window for good. A window filling the whole screen is first restored to its normal size, exactly as Windows does.
Pulpit (Desktop)
Opens a window with the files on the desktop - just as „Widok główny" opens „This PC". A person steering with their eyes cannot hit the small desktop icons, especially when open windows cover them; here they have them in one window. It also works when the desktop has been moved to OneDrive.
Reading text aloud
Select a passage - with the keys on the first page of the wand, for instance - and click „Czytaj tekst". When nothing is selected, the keyboard selects everything and reads the lot. A long text is read sentence by sentence, so the voice starts at once and „Zakończ czytanie" stops it immediately.
The voice is chosen in the settings, in the Lektor section: there is a woman's and a man's voice - the same natural voices the PIC and Y programs use - as well as the voices installed in Windows. Next to them stand the reading speed and a „Posłuchaj" button, which speaks in the chosen voice straight away.
Reading works without the internet. The voices sit on the computer, next to the program. Nothing is sent anywhere - the text being read never leaves that computer.
5. Keys that work on two clicks
Shift, Ctrl, Alt, right Alt and the digits key do one thing after the first click and something else after the second. The colour of the key tells you which:
- green - one click: it works until the next character and goes out by itself
- dark red - two clicks: it stays until you click that key again
A third click switches the key off. The green and the dark red can be changed in the settings - separately from the theme, for people who cannot tell those colours apart.
| No. | Key | One click (green) | Two clicks (dark red) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ⇧ Shift | the next letter will be a capital, then Shift goes out by itself | capitals stay until you click Shift again |
| 2 | AltGr right Alt | the next letter will be an accented one (ą, ć, ż), then it goes out | accented letters stay until you click again |
| 3 | Ctrl | held until the next key, then released - this is how Ctrl + C is made | stays held until you click it again |
| 4 | Alt | held until the next key, then released | stays held until you click it again |
| 5 | 123 digits | digits for one character, then the letters come back on their own | digits stay until you click that key again |
Caps Lock is not the same thing
Caps has no two-click behaviour: one click turns capitals on for good, the next turns them off. The keyboard toggles the system Caps Lock, so what the key shows agrees with what Windows is doing.
6. Accented (Polish) letters
The accented characters sit under AltGr (right Alt), in the same places as in the „Polish (programmers)" layout: a → ą, c → ć, e → ę, l → ł, n → ń, o → ó, s → ś, x → ź, z → ż.
After you click right Alt, the labels on the keys change into the accented letters - there is nothing to memorise. Capital accented letters come from right Alt together with Shift, or with Caps Lock switched on.
While right Alt is on, every other character goes dark - nine accented letters stay on the keyboard, together with the working keys: space, backspace, Enter, Tab, the arrows and AltGr itself. A darkened key types nothing, so you cannot press a letter you cannot see. In the digits and symbols set right Alt darkens nothing - there is nothing for it to show there.
The letters are sent as characters, not as layout keys, so they arrive whatever language the system is set to.
7. The dictionary - whole-word suggestions
Above the keys there is a row of suggestions. After two or three letters it shows words that begin the same way; a click inserts the whole word with a space. The number of suggestions (from 3 to 12) is set in the settings, and the whole dictionary row is switched off with the book button 📖 among the menu buttons.
- Accents do not matter - „zolw" finds „żółwia" and so does „żół". Reaching for right Alt before every accented letter would be a waste of time.
- The keyboard learns your words. A new word is added to your own dictionary, and the suggestions you pick often move to the front of the row.
- Spacing corrects itself - the space added after a word disappears before a full stop, a comma or a bracket, so you never get „fine .".
- A capital letter when you started the word that way, or when you have just typed a full stop.
Suggesting the whole next word
The keyboard suggests before you press a single letter. After you type „chcę" (I want), the bar immediately offers pić, jeść, się, spać, wstać - drink, eat, oneself, sleep, get up. Pick „się" and the bar changes to napić, położyć, umyć, ubrać, because the program looks at the last two words together, not at one.
When typing with the eyes, every glance costs a second or two, so taking a ready word instead of tapping it out letter by letter is not convenience - it is the difference between a conversation and no conversation. The program knows over seven hundred such pairs from everyday speech - requests, how one feels, politeness, food, handling equipment - and adds its own. After a few days the bar speaks in the language of the person typing: write something your own way twice and it overtakes what came from us.
Word endings
- Names take their endings. Typing „Kasi", „Tomka" or „Pawła" now suggests the right person - before, it suggested nothing, because the dictionary held only „Kasia". Every name you add yourself gets the same treatment.
- A wrong ending is one click away from the right one. You picked „mama" but the sentence needs „mamie"? Right after the word is inserted, the first places on the bar are taken by its other forms: mamy, mamo, mamę, mamie. A click replaces the word instead of adding a second one - there is nothing to delete.
8. Ready-made phrases - whole sentences with one click
The dictionary saves letters, the next-word suggestion saves words, and a ready-made phrase saves a whole sentence. „Call someone" is thirteen glances of a second or two each; here it is one.
The phrases are opened by the speech-bubble button in the row of menu buttons, next to ⋯. The keys then turn into twelve complete sentences, and a click types the chosen one in full. You come back with the abc key, just as from the digits.
- Thirty-six phrases to begin with - split across three pages: what is needed most often (Yes, No, I want to drink, It hurts, Help me), conversation (Hello, How are you, I love you) and care and equipment (Straighten my pillow, Turn on the television, Call a doctor).
- The key in the bottom left corner turns the pages and at the same time shows which one you are on („1/3"). After the last one it returns to the first.
- You add your own phrases in the settings, in the „Ready-made phrases" section. That is also where you remove them and move them up or down - and that matters: the first twelve land on the first page, the closest to hand and to eye.
- The program adds no full stop at the end - a phrase is often the beginning of a longer sentence (I want to drink ... some tea).
The list is yours. On first start the program copies it into its own data and works on that copy from then on. Updating the program will not overwrite the phrases you added, nor bring back the ones you deleted.
9. Typing with your eyes
When your gaze rests on a key, a countdown circle is drawn. When it closes, the key is pressed by itself - with no clicking. The circle looks exactly as it does in EyeControl, so there are no two different ones to get used to.
- It has to be switched on in the settings, in the section „Auto-klik (samoczynne kliknięcie)" (Auto-click): the box „Włącz auto-klik" (Turn on auto-click). It is off by default, because when working with a mouse, clicking on hover would be a disaster. Auto-click measures how long the cursor stays put, so it also helps with an ordinary mouse and with a mouse worn on the head.
- With EyeControl there is nothing to switch on. EyeControl itself presses whatever you look at. While it runs, the keyboard's auto-click switches itself off (otherwise a character would be typed twice) and comes back when EyeControl is closed.
- How long the cursor has to stay - from 0.4 to 3.0 seconds.
- Pulling the cursor to the middle of the key - the gaze trembles, so without this the cursor slips off the key halfway through the countdown and everything starts again. It can be switched off separately.
- A short pause after each character (the circle turns red) - otherwise one longer glance would type the same letter several times.
10. Key sounds
The sound confirms a key the moment it is pressed - when typing with the eyes this is often the only sign that it went through. There are four kinds to choose from: Click, Tap (the default), Bell and Drop.
The volume runs from 0 to 100, and zero turns the sound off completely - there is no separate switch. The program generates the sounds itself, so there are no files that could go missing, and the volume works independently of the Windows mixer.
11. Settings
The settings are opened by the gear button ⚙️. Every change shows on the keyboard at once and is saved at once - there is no „Apply" button, because someone choosing colours to suit their own eyesight needs to see the result immediately.
When docking is off, the keyboard pins itself to the screen edge for as long as the settings are open - so you can see straight away what the sliders do. After the settings are closed it goes back to how it was.
| No. | Group | What you can set |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Startup | starting the keyboard together with Windows |
| 2 | Pulling the cursor to the key | pulling the cursor to the middle of the key |
| 3 | Auto-click | switching it on and how long the cursor has to stay (0.4-3.0 s) |
| 4 | Dictionary | showing the bar, number of suggestions (3-12), after how many seconds the menu buttons hide (5-30), „Nie ukrywaj przycisków menu" (Do not hide the menu buttons) |

| 6 | Ready-made phrases | adding, removing and ordering the phrases |
| 7 | Accessibility | key spacing, border thickness, highlight strength, how much a key grows under the cursor, how visible the keyboard is (30-100%) - at a lower value you can see the window you are typing in through the keyboard |

| 17 | Remote help | asking for remote help through Windows Quick Assist |
The settings window scrolls with buttons. Along the left edge there are two large buttons, ▲ and ▼ (2 by 3 cm). A scrollbar cannot be moved with the eyes - it has to be grabbed and dragged, and the eyes can only click.
A click moves the view by a whole section, not by a piece of the screen, so no setting is ever cut in half. When a section does not fit in the window, the first click shows the rest of it and only the next one moves on.
Starting together with Windows
The first section of the settings holds the switch „Start the keyboard together with Windows". This is not convenience but independence: a person for whom this keyboard is the only way to write has nothing to click the shortcut with on the desktop - without it, they need a carer after every start-up.
The setting belongs to this account, so it needs no administrator rights and can always be switched off in the same place. When starting with Windows the program waits a few seconds for the desktop to be ready - otherwise the keyboard strip could land in the wrong place. The installer offers this too.
The sections run from what is changed most often to what is set once. The system theme takes light or dark mode and the accent colour from Windows, so the keyboard looks like the rest of the desktop. Custom colours for Shift, Ctrl and Alt work with every theme - they are an accessibility setting, not part of the look.
C:\Users\Public\Documents\System Sensor Klawiatura\Ustawienia\ustawienia.txt
and are shared by all accounts on the computer: the carer prepares the
look on their own account and the person they care for finds it ready on theirs.
12. Trial version and licence
Trial version
- After installation the full version works for 14 days, with no limits. This time is counted once per computer and is shared by all System Sensor programs.
- After that, without a key, the keyboard types for four minutes and then closes.
- The time counts from the first character typed, not from starting the program - simply looking at the keyboard does not use up the trial.
- How much is left is shown in the row of menu buttons.
- The next trial can be started after a minute.
When no key is needed
The keyboard is part of the System Sensor set, not a separate product. It runs as the full version without a key of its own when the computer has:
- a valid EyeControl, PIC or Y licence, or
- a control unit connected - whoever owns one is entitled to PIC and Y, and so to the keyboard as well. What counts is a control unit plugged into the computer right now: once it is unplugged the keyboard asks for a key of its own, unless one of the licences above is valid here.
🔑 The keyboard recognises a control unit only where PIC or Y is installed. That program holds the control unit's port and the keyboard cannot open it a second time, so it uses the note that PIC or Y leaves after every connection with the control unit. The note appears only once PIC or Y actually connects to the control unit - it is enough to start either of them once with the unit plugged in.
In the settings, under „Licence", the program says plainly where the full version came from - so that nobody hunts for a key they do not need.
The licence key
The key is entered in the settings, under Licence, followed by „Check and activate". It can be typed with the on-screen keyboard itself - it stands at the edge of the screen and types into the settings window, so nobody else is needed.
- Renewal works by itself. The program checks the licence at start-up and every few hours of work, so after a renewal nothing has to be typed again. Checking during work matters more here than in the other programs: the keyboard is never closed, so „checking at start-up" might not happen once in a whole month.
- No internet does not cut you off from typing. If the date has passed and the program could not reach the server, the keyboard works normally for another week and says so plainly - there is time to react.
- When the licence really has run out, the keyboard does not close on the spot - it goes back to the trial version.
13. Worth knowing
- The ☰ button in the menu row is the right mouse button - it opens the context menu where the text cursor stands.
- The keyboard does not take over the cursor. Clicking the keys does not take the selection away from the program you are typing into.
- Close the keyboard with the ✕ button, not by killing the process - that way it gives back its strip of screen and the windows return to their places.
- The keyboard and EyeControl are two separate programs. The keyboard works without EyeControl as well; together they give you control of the whole computer with your eyes.
