🧭 What this page is about
System Sensor EyeControl is a program that turns your gaze into a Windows mouse - the cursor follows your eyes and clicks automatically after a brief pause (dwell click). The program is part of the System Sensor family and works on its own or together with the System Sensor PIC communicator.
👁️ What you control with your eyes after installation: all of Windows, training and rehabilitation boards, web applications (PIC 2.0, Mouse+Keyboard) and the System Sensor PIC program. You will find a full guide with a gallery of boards and Windows configuration for eye control (cursor, scaling, Snap Assist, touch keyboard, dictation) on a separate page: EyeControl use cases →
The EyeControl installer, in a single step:
- installs the System Sensor EyeControl application,
- adds the Tobii driver suited to your sensor (Tobii 5 / 5L or Tobii 4C / 4L),
- automatically removes the old, conflicting Tobii driver if a different model was previously installed,
- optionally adds a desktop shortcut and a remote support module.
📋 What you need before installing
- A computer with Windows 10 or Windows 11,
- administrator rights (the installer asks for UAC),
- a Tobii Eye Tracker 5 / 5L sensor (recommended) or Tobii 4C / 4L - optionally: without Tobii the installer will install the program alone (control via webcam or an RS232 sensor),
- a license key (if you have one) or awareness that without a key EyeControl runs in DEMO mode - 10 minutes per session.
⚠️ Tobii 5 vs Tobii 4C - you cannot have both at once
Tobii 5 / 5L uses the new Tobii Experience driver, while Tobii 4C / 4L uses the older Tobii Core Software 2.16. Both drivers register the same HID device and exclude each other. The EyeControl installer will detect the conflict on its own and offer to uninstall the one that does not match your choice.
1. License key
After launching the installer you will see a screen for choosing the license mode.
- I have a license key - paste the 25-character key in the format
XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. The key will be saved, and the application will activate it online on first launch. - I don't have a key - install in demonstration mode - the session is limited to 10 minutes. You can enter the key later in Settings → License.
Click Next to proceed to the Tobii driver selection.
2. Choosing the Tobii driver
The installer will show three variants - select the one that matches your sensor:
Not sure which model you have? The Tobii 5 / 5L is a long black panel mounted below the screen. The Tobii 4C / 4L is a narrower vertical sensor with an elongated mounting strip. The pictures in the installer help you tell them apart.
3. Installation components
The installer will select the components matching your choice from the previous step. Components that do not apply to your configuration are locked - you cannot select them by mistake.
Variant A - Tobii 5 / 5L
Selected automatically:
- System Sensor EyeControl (the main application, required - 101 MB),
- Tobii Bridge (x64) - the communication layer for Tobii 5 / 5L,
- Tobii Experience driver - installed from the Microsoft Store (Windows will open the store),
- Remote support (7.2 MB - optional, helps the service team solve problems remotely).
Variant B - Tobii 4C / 4L
Selected automatically:
- System Sensor EyeControl (required),
- Tobii Bridge (x86) - the communication layer for Tobii 4C / 4L,
- Tobii Core Software 2.16 driver - if it is not already installed, an EXE will add it in the background,
- Remote support.
Conflict detection dialogs
If another Tobii driver was already on the computer, you will see one of these messages. Click Yes to continue according to the chosen variant - the installer will take care of the rest.
5. Summary and starting the installation
The last screen before installation shows a summary of your choices. Check that the Installation type matches your sensor. If it does - click Install.
6. Installation and automatic removal of conflicting drivers
After you click Install, the installer copies the EyeControl files and, if needed, uninstalls the previous Tobii driver that would conflict with your choice.
- If you chose Tobii 5 / 5L and the computer had Tobii Core Software 2.16 - it will be removed.
- If you chose Without Tobii - all earlier Tobii drivers will be removed (together with the Tobii Experience package from the Microsoft Store).
The procedure is automatic - the installer will show the Tobii uninstaller window; confirm Yes, I'm sure and wait for it to finish. For Tobii 5: after the old driver is removed, the installer will open the Microsoft Store with the Tobii Experience package to install.
7. First launch of Tobii Experience (Tobii 5 / 5L only)
After installing Tobii Experience from the Microsoft Store, launch it (the icon appears in the system tray). The wizard guides you through a short setup - it takes about 3 minutes:
💡 Tip: give the profile your first name (e.g. roman). If you sometimes use glasses and sometimes not - create two separate profiles. Calibration with and without glasses can differ significantly.
8. The Tobii Experience panel
After the wizard finishes, the Tobii Eye Tracking application starts. Here you can:
- Improve calibration - a quick correction if the cursor drifts off to the side,
- Change screen - when you move the sensor to a different monitor,
- Change user profile - switching person / glasses,
- Tobii Experience (ON / OFF) - if you want to temporarily turn off tracking for games.
You can close the Tobii Experience application after this point - it will keep running in the background as a service. EyeControl reads your gaze through Tobii automatically.
✅ Installation complete - what next?
Once the installation is complete, System Sensor EyeControl is ready to use. You will find the full user guide (launching, the 8 function buttons, docking the window, the web and Communicators subpages, navigating pages with the arrows, the caregiver alarm, settings) on a separate page:

The cursor doesn't reach the corners of the screen
This means the fundamental Tobii calibration is missing. Run it from EyeControl Settings → Calibration → Tobii calibration (9 points) or directly from Tobii Experience → Improve calibration. Without it, the cursor only reaches about 60% around the center of the screen.
After 10 minutes the program closes
That is DEMO mode. Enter the license key in Settings → License, click Check / Activate and start the session again. Without an active license the session is limited to 10 minutes.
Tobii Experience doesn't appear
For Tobii 5 / 5L the Tobii Experience package is installed from the Microsoft Store. If the store is disabled in your organization, open it manually and search for "Tobii Experience". Without it, EyeControl will not see the Tobii 5 sensor.
I had a Tobii 4C, now I want a Tobii 5 (or the other way around)
Run the EyeControl installer again and in step 2 choose the new model. The installer will detect the old driver on its own and offer to uninstall it (see step 6). You don't need to uninstall anything manually.
Does EyeControl work with System Sensor PIC?
Yes. The PIC button in the main EyeControl window launches the PIC communicator if it is installed. If not - the application will offer to download it from the website. Both programs share the cursor: EyeControl controls the mouse, and PIC responds to dwell clicks just as it would to an ordinary mouse.
