Control the computer with your eyes
and an AAC communicator for people who cannot speak

The cursor follows the gaze, and a click happens when the eyes rest on an element for a moment. Someone who cannot speak and cannot move their hands can operate a computer and say what they need.

The communicator can be rented - monthly billing

Try it at home before you decide to buy. Call and ask for details: +48 502 485 205

Where to start?

The choice depends on one thing: which movement the user can repeat reliably and without getting tired.

The user has control of their eyes

The widest possibilities. With the eyes the user can operate the whole of Windows and AAC boards. A Tobii Eye Tracker 4C or 5 camera is needed.

See how it works

The user cannot speak

The communicator turns chosen symbols, words or letters into synthetic speech. Talking with family, a carer and a doctor becomes possible.

Learn about AAC communication

Eye control is not an option

There is still touch, head movement, a switch with scanning, or a sensor next to any part of the body that still works. One reliable movement is enough.

Other ways of controlling

System Sensor EyeControl

Eye control of the computer - using Windows without hands

System Sensor EyeControl turns the user's gaze into the system mouse of Windows. The cursor follows the eyes, and a click happens when the gaze rests for a moment on the chosen element - the so-called dwell click. No intermediate software and no special web browser are needed.

How it works - three steps

  1. The camera below the screen reads which part of the screen the user is looking at.
  2. The cursor follows the gaze - exactly as if it were led by a mouse.
  3. Resting the gaze clicks - it is enough to look at a button for a moment. The resting time is set to suit the user.

What you can use with your eyes

  • the desktop, windows and menus of Windows,
  • a web browser, e-mail and Office,
  • chat programs and social networks,
  • AAC boards and the on-screen keyboard for writing,
  • films, music and games at a calm pace.

Equipment needed

A computer with Windows and an eye tracking camera - Tobii Eye Tracker 4C or Tobii Eye Tracker 5. The camera is mounted below the screen; calibration takes a moment and is repeated only when the user's position changes.

Writing with the eyes - an on-screen keyboard with a panel of five buttons at the left edge of the screen: to the very top, one step up, close the keyboard, one step down, to the very bottom
The panel appears together with the keyboard at the left edge of the screen. You choose each button by resting your gaze on it - the keyboard moves up or down so that it does not cover the field you are writing in.

Augmentative and alternative communication

An AAC communicator - when speech fails, but a person has something to say

The System Sensor communicator in use - a communication board on a computer screen
The communicator builds a sentence from the fields of the board, and the speech synthesizer says it out loud.

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) covers the methods and tools that let a person who cannot speak communicate with the people around them. System Sensor is an AAC communicator made in Poland for people with speech difficulties and limited mobility.

Who the AAC communicator is for

  • people who cannot speak - aphasia, after a stroke, neurodegenerative diseases,
  • quadriplegia and limited motor control,
  • cerebral palsy, SMA and other conditions that make speech difficult,
  • people after accidents who need to control a computer without hands,
  • children learning picture based communication.

How the System Sensor communicator works

  • Communication boards - fields with symbols and words build a sentence,
  • Speech synthesizer - says the finished sentence out loud,
  • On-screen keyboards - writing letters, for users who read,
  • Scanning of rows and columns - choosing with a single switch,
  • Computer control - mouse, keyboard, websites.

When eye control is not an option

One movement is enough - one the user can repeat reliably and without getting tired. We will find it together.

The System Sensor touch sensor fixed next to the user's hand

Touch sensor

Placed next to any part of the body that still works - a hand, a cheek, a knee. It reacts to a light touch, with no force needed.

The System Sensor gyroscopic sensor mounted on the user's head

Head movement

A gyroscopic mouse leads the cursor by head movement. The sensor is fixed to a spectacle frame or a headband.

The System Sensor USB button for operating a tablet without hands

USB button

Operating a tablet and the MOWIK program with sensors, with no need to use hands.

Scanning

The program highlights rows and columns one after another, and the user confirms the choice at the right moment - with a single switch. The pace is matched to what the user can manage.

Which program to choose?

Five solutions. What makes them different is how the user controls them.

Eye control

System Sensor EyeControl

A program for operating the computer and AAC boards with the eyes. It turns the gaze into the system mouse of Windows - the cursor follows the eyes, and a click happens when the gaze rests for a moment. With the eyes you can use the whole system: the desktop, a web browser, Office, chat programs and AAC boards. It works with the Tobii Eye Tracker 4C and 5.

System Sensor Cam Pro

Communication boards operated with the eyes (FHD cameras, for example Tobii), by touch, with a head movement sensor or with a switch. Built-in speech synthesizer - for people who cannot speak.

System Sensor Mini

An on-screen keyboard operated with a touch sensor placed next to any part of the body. Built-in speech synthesizer - for people who cannot speak.

System Sensor USB Button (for MOWIK)

Operating a tablet with sensors, with no need to use hands.

System Sensor Gyroscopic Mouse

Moving the mouse cursor by head movement - without hands and without eye tracking.

A computer for people who cannot speak and people with paralysis

Using a computer without hands

People with paralysis - quadriplegia, after a stroke or after an accident - operate the computer with their eyes, with head movement or by touch. They use the internet, e-mail and chat programs like everyone else.

A voice for people who cannot speak

The communicator turns a choice made on a board or a keyboard into synthetic speech. It makes everyday contact with carers, family and medical staff easier.

Independence at home

The same set makes it possible to write, speak, study and work, and also to control devices around the room. For a person with paralysis it is often the first way to do something without asking anyone for help.

Frequently asked questions

Can a computer be operated with the eyes alone?

Yes. The System Sensor EyeControl program turns the gaze into the system mouse of Windows: the cursor follows the eyes, and a click happens when the gaze rests on an element for a moment. With your eyes you can use the desktop, a web browser, Office, chat programs and AAC boards.

What equipment is needed for eye control of the computer?

A computer with Windows and an eye tracking camera - Tobii Eye Tracker 4C or Tobii Eye Tracker 5. The camera is mounted below the screen. No additional intermediate software is needed.

Installation step by step

What is an AAC communicator?

AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) covers the methods and tools that let people who cannot speak communicate. The System Sensor communicator turns chosen symbols, words or letters into synthetic speech, so a person who cannot speak can talk with family, carers and medical staff.

What if eye control is not possible?

Other ways of operating remain: a touch sensor placed next to any part of the body that still works, a switch with row and column scanning, a gyroscopic mouse controlled by head movement, and control through a webcam. The choice depends on which movement the user can repeat reliably.

Is funding available towards the purchase?

Yes, in Poland. Equipment and software for communication and for operating a computer can be funded by PFRON, the Polish state fund for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities, among others through the Aktywny samorzad programme. We help put together the documents and the equipment description for the application.

Can the communicator be rented before buying it?

Yes. The communicator can be rented with monthly billing. That way you can calmly check at home whether the chosen way of operating suits the user, before deciding to buy.
